Welcome to Kalyani Mahavidyalaya
Kalyani was established in 1999 as a satellite Town about 48 kilometers north of Kolkata. Designed to become an educational and industrial hub, Kalyani was affectionately called the dream-child of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal. Though two Universities, two engineering colleges and a good number of regional and state level institutions and a number of excellent schools are located in Kalyani, there was no degree college in the town. Kalyani Mahavidyalaya was established in 1999 to cater not only to the needs of Kalyani, but also the vast areas in Nadia, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas.
During its initial years the classes were held in the B T College Campus of the University of Kalyani; however, by 2004-05 the classes shifted to its own campus at the centre of the city. Since then, the college has been regularly upgrading its physical infrastructure for the benefit of the students, staffs, and associates. Right now, the college is spread across an area of 3.5 acres approx., having a main and an annex building with an open air stage, two playgrounds-one large and one relatively small, and a site for hostel.
The first batch of students graduated from the college in 2002 with flying colours. Inspite of being the youngest college in terms of age, almost all the departments had students who were placed in the merit list of the University of Kalyani. Since then the college has effortlessly maintained its excellent academic record not only among the colleges affiliated to the University of Kalyani but also among the rest of the colleges in West Bengal.
