Established in 2000, the Department
of Economics of Kalyani Mahavidyalaya (affiliated to University of Kalyani)
offers Economics Major, Economics Minor programs under NEP. Apart from that,
the Department has ongoing Economics hons and Generic courses under CBCS. The
department of Economics is dedicated to providing inclusive education and
interactive learning experiences.
The department follows the
curriculum designed by the University of Kalyani. Although it is an
undergraduate department with limited
scope for extensive research, we emphasise on the importance of developing
research orientation and logical analysis. Students are encouraged to take up
dissertation projects in their final semester to nurture their research skills.
Extension and outreach programs are regularly
held to instill a sense of responsibility towards the community. Our add-on
courses are designed with a focus on environmental awareness and sustainability
and research methodology ensuring our students are well-versed in these crucial
areas which will help our students to reach their career goals and will also
make them responsible citizens of India.
Our students consistently achieve impressive
results in university examinations, reflecting the high standards of education we
try to maintain. We also take pride in our active alumni network, which remains
closely linked to the department. Annual reunions and picnics are organised to
keep our alumni connected and engaged with the current students and faculty.
The department hosts a variety of
events throughout the year, including World Environment Day, freshers' welcome,
and farewell programs, fostering a strong sense of community and tradition.
Students are also encouraged to participate in Independence Day, Republic Day celebrations
and in extracurricular activities and competitions such as poster making and
debates, which enhance their skills and broaden their horizons. Students are
encouraged to organise various programs in a sustainable manner. Our students
have excelled in various fields, making us proud with their achievements.
